Obituary for Guilliam Eugene "Gene" Dunn Jr.

Guilliam Eugene Dunn, Jr., 92, of Overland Park, KS formerly of Topeka and Bonner Springs passed away on Tue., Oct. 29, 2019 at the Saint Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 am and Funeral services will be at 11 am, on Tue., Nov. 5, 2019 at the Bonner Springs United Methodist Church, 425 W. Morse Bonner Springs, KS 66012. With burial to follow in the Bonner Springs Cemetery. Gene was born on March 1, 1927 in Burlingame, KS The son of Guilliam and Esther E. "Betty" Dunn, he graduated from the Burlingame High School in 1945 and then served in the U.S. Army in the Occupation Forces in Vienna, Austria in WW II. On his return home he married his High School sweetheart Betty Lou Sloop in 1949 and he had started his long career with the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe Railroad where he worked for 43 years. After his retirement he and Betty traveled the country in their R.V. staying winters in Texas, Florida and California. They also enjoyed many cruises with family and friends to Hawaii, Mexico and the Mediterranean. Gene is preceded in death by his daughter Sandy (Dunn) Pickett in 2011 and Son-in-law Chuck Pickett in 2009. And is Survived by his wife of 70 years Betty Dunn of the Home. Two sons Joel Dunn and his wife Stephanie of Kansas City, MO and Rick Dunn and his wife Terrie of Louisburg, NC. One sister Kay Pisle and her husband Stan of Roundup, MT. Nine grandchildren Cybill, Rick Jr, Kyle, Ian, Alison, Heather, Connor, Sean and Lauren. 19 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Brian McClure (Dunn)

I am so Thankful to have gotten to meet and spend a moment in time with Uncle Gene. May this small gesture of a tree planting, that will generate life for years to come, be a remembrance of his presence on earth.
