Obituary for Gerald Riley

Gerald Riley, age 77, of Linwood, KS passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at his home. Visitation will be 6-8pm Monday July 22nd at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be 11am Tuesday, July 23rd, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence, KS burial will follow in the Saint John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Aliceville, KS. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Stephen Ministries.
Gerald was born on December 14, 1941 on a farm north of Mont Ida, Kansas to parents Johnnie & Lillie (Horst) Riley. He attended a one room school at Maple Grove, KS. and later graduated from Westphalia High School. Gerald served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War, he enjoyed traveling to many exotic places while serving four years in the Air Force. Gerald married Bev Hiatt Riley on July 1, 1967 at Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Aliceville, they grew up together, as Bev was 15 and Gerald was 19 when they first started dating. Gerald drove a Ready Mix Truck in Kansas City for many years before taking a job working maintenance for the Basehor-Linwood School District. Gerald loved this job, as he liked children and fixing things for children, it was a perfect job for him. He retired from the School District to babysit his grandchildren Liam and Mena.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister Lillie Joann, and sisters Donna Arbuckle and Betty Young.
Survivors include his wife Bev Riley of the home, daughter Cindy Reeves and her husband Justin of Linwood, KS., two grandchildren Mena and Liam Reeves, sisters Martha Henry of rural Centropolis, KS and two brothers, Larry and Gary Riley of Iola, KS.
