Obituary for Gerald Lawrence "Jerry" Otting

Gerald Lawrence Otting "Jerry", 79, of Basehor, KS passed away Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021 at his home. Rosary is at 8:45 am, visitation from 9 to 11 am, and Mass of Christian Burial is at 11 am, Thursday, Jan. 28, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Basehor, KS. The family has suggested memorial contributions to the “Special Needs Ministry” in care of the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home.

Jerry was born on Nov. 29, 1941 in Sabetha, KS to Lawrence and Loretta (Haverkamp) Otting. Jerry grew up on a farm near Seneca, Kansas and graduated from Saints Peter & Paul Catholic School in Seneca. After graduating, he began working at General Motors in Kansas City, Kansas, retiring after 33 years. Jerry spent the rest of his years running a lawn service, driving a propane truck and tending to his animals. He enjoyed the outdoors. Every year he and his buddy, Tony, would put in a huge garden and they would give away most of the vegetables they grew. Jerry enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids and attending sporting events. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Donna Koehler, his brother, Robert Otting, and his granddaughter, Kathryn Grace Otting. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Lola Otting, of the home, and their four children: Barry Otting and wife Anne of Basehor, Eric Otting and wife Debbie of Topeka, KS., Randal Otting and wife Shauna of Kansas City, KS. and Dana Walker of Olathe, KS, as well as his two sisters, Jeannette Toby and Alice Seitz, his eleven grandchildren and his three great-grandchildren.
