Obituary for Gene Grisham

Gene Ray Grisham, age 74, of Gladstone, Missouri passed away on Thursday, December 17th, 2020 at the Kansas City Missouri V.A. Medical Center. Graveside funeral service will be at 11:30 am Monday, Dec. 28th at the Glenwood Cemetery in Basehor, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Basehor VFW.

Gene was born on August 19, 1946, in Kansas City, Kansas, and was the oldest of four children born to Wilbur & Betty (Blankenship) Grisham. He grew up in Basehor, Kansas graduating from Basehor High School in the Class of 1964. Gene attended Ottawa University where he played basketball for the University before enlisting in the United States Air Force. Gene proudly served one tour of duty in Vietnam before finishing his military career in 1969. From his military service, he worked as a Respiratory Therapist at the VA Medical Center in Kansas City, Denver, and Omaha, as well as multiple hospitals in the Kansas City area, retiring in 2013.

Gene was an avid sports fan of the KC Royals, KC Chiefs, and his beloved KU Jayhawks. When he was not watching his sports teams, Gene spent much of his life as a bowler. Throughout his life, he called Ranch Bowl in Kansas City, Kansas his home alley, and later in life, AMF Northland and AMF Pro Bowl in Missouri were alleys where Gene put up impressive scores including one perfect game, one 800 series, and many other high scores with countless teammates who he enjoyed bowling with through the years.

Gene Ray Grisham was preceded in death by his mother Betty Grisham and his daughter Catherine Parks.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Connie Grisham of the home, five children: Traci Worner and husband Mike of Overland Park, KS., Stephanie Gunter and husband Eddie of Shawnee, KS., Jennifer Burns and husband Kirk of Parkville, MO., Angela Jensen of Olathe, KS. and David Grisham of Plattsburg, MO., 21 grandchildren, and one great-grandson. His father Wilbur Grisham of Basehor, KS., three siblings: Beth Couch of Basehor, KS., Marty Hubble and husband Glen, Paul Grisham and wife Ann all of Norman, OK., as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Gene was a true dreamer & adventurer at heart, but the most important thing to him was his family. His love and support for his family was his top priority. He loved them unconditionally.
This love was truly felt by all who knew him and is the legacy he passes on.
