Obituary for Florence Mae Pembleton

Florence Mae Pembleton, age 91, a lifetime resident of Bonner Springs, Kansas passed away on Monday, December 18th, 2023. Visitation will be 10-11:30a. Wednesday, December 27th at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home. A Graveside Funeral Service will follow at Noon in the Bonner Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Bonner Animal Rescue.

Florence was born on July 19th, 1932 in Kansas City, Kansas, and was the oldest of 20 children of Arthur Sr. & Wilda E. (Catron) Carver. Her young childhood was spent in Edwardsville and Linwood, she then moved in with her aunt & uncle Leola & Merle Barth so she could finish school in Bonner Springs, graduating in the Class of 1950. Florence married the love of her life, Bobby Pembleton, and together they made their home in Bonner Springs. Over the years she had done Clothes Ironing out of her home and worked at Merrits Clothes Horse. Later, she worked at Owl Hardware, until it closed and she then worked at Commercial State Bank, all in Bonner Springs. Florence was a wonderful mother and grandmother who took great pride in her family. She also took much pride in her yard and home, known by many as the Queen of Park Drive, she could often be seen outside working with her flower beds and yard, which had won “Bonner Springs Yard of the Month” Twice! Florence and Bobby were avid bowlers and bowled in several bowling leagues for many years. Later in life, Florence was introduced to country line dancing by her friend and companion, Charles Johnson, which she thoroughly enjoyed.

She was preceded in death by her parents and several siblings, her husband Bobby Pembleton in 1990. She was also preceded in death by her longtime friend and companion Charles Johnson in 2011.

Survivors include her two children: Steve Pembleton and wife Beverly of Tonganoxie, KS., and Debbie Nagy and husband Bill of Houston, Texas. Four grandchildren Carmen Carver (Keith), Jason Pembleton (Amber), Brian Pembleton (Bethany), and Lisa DeMeyer. Ten Great-Grandchildren: Hayden, Grayson, Peyton, Terra, Caelum, Forest, Emma Leigh, BayLee, Josephine and William, as well as several nieces and nephews.
