Evelyn V. Lietzen

Evelyn Virginia Lietzen, age 93, of Bonner Springs, Kansas went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 2, 2022. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm, Thursday, September 8 at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be 10:00am Friday, September 9 at Calvary Bible Church, 518 W Insley Ave., Bonner Springs. Burial will follow in the Bonner Springs Cemetery.

Evelyn was born on August 22, 1929, in Laurel, Mississippi to John Roosevelt and Bessie B. (Pitts) Walters. She grew up in Laurel, Mississippi and attended Pendorf High School. Evelyn moved to Kansas City in the early 1950’s and married August Lietzen on August 22, 1961, and together they made their home in Bonner Springs. She was a longtime member of Calvary Bible Church in Bonner Springs. Evelyn’s greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Evelyn will be remembered for hosting family and church gatherings at her farm throughout the decades and for the many acts of kindness she performed until the very end of her life. She also enjoyed bridge, gardening and reading.

She was preceded in death by her husband August Lietzen in 1997. She was also preceded in death by her parents and six of her siblings: John Smedley Walters, Ina Louise Everette, Blanche Mary Ackerman, Johnnie Lou Patrick, Imogene Jeske, and Robert Daniel Ashley, Jr.

Survivors include her two children August Lee Lietzen (Melinda) and Sherry Lietzen Stevens (Chris) of Bonner Springs, four grandchildren Andrew Russell Lietzen, Kiersten Michele Steinwachs, Morgan Garrett Lietzen, and Matthew Lee Lietzen, seven great-grandchildren, three sisters Neda Gay Tucker, Lavine Simmons and Donna Gail Griffin, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Calvary Bible Church.
