Obituary for Ernie Williams

Ernest Lyle Williams, age 80, of Kansas City, Kansas, and previously of Bonner Springs went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 5th, 2023 peacefully at his home. A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, November 18th with visitation at 10 am and services at 11am at Heritage United Methodist Church, 12850 Quivira Rd, Overland Park, KS. The family would like all attendees to dress in whatever attire is most comfortable for them, and if that happens to include KU wear, all the better.

Ernie was born on June 9th, 1943 in Parsons, Kansas, and was one of four children born to Ernest & Juanita (Yockey) Williams. He grew up in Kansas City, KS., and graduated from Washington High School in the Class of 1961. Ernie was a longtime member of the Bonner Springs United Methodist Church and in recent years, Heritage United Methodist Church, where he was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Men. Over the years, Ernie was an avid drag racer (even holding the 1/4 mile track record at KCIR at one time) and circle track pit crew member. He also had a passion for golfing (always working on perfecting his swing) and mowing his lawn, the church lawn, and any other lawns that may have been in need of a trim from time to time. Ernie was an avid KU fan and was rarely seen without sporting something KU, often shorts and a favorite t-shirt even in winter months. It was well known, that Ernie would do anything for his friends and neighbors and cherished the ability to help anyone needing a hand.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Steve, and his one sister Connie. He was also preceded in death by his second wife, Dolores Johnson in February of 2023.

Survivors include his daughter Kristi Stockman and husband Mark of Eudora, KS., grandson Tyler Stockman and wife Sidney, and great-granddaughter Sasha, and his beloved fur baby Baxter. He is also survived by his ex-wife and lifelong friend Vicki Williams of Eudora, his brother Bob and his wife, Mary, and his aunt Donna and her husband Gary, in addition to his many friends from his life’s adventures, cherished neighbors, and church family.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Ernie’s name to Missions at Heritage UMC.
