Obituary for Emilee Jo Swope

Emilee J. Swope
Emilee Jo Swope, age 82, of Olathe, Kansas passed away on Monday, October 4th, 2021. Visitation will be 2-3pm, followed by the Funeral Service at 3pm, both Saturday, Oct. 9th, 2021 at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home. Following cremation she will be buried on her family plot in the Wise Cemetery near Winchester, Kansas. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Wise Cemetery Association in care of the funeral home.

Emilee was born on September 7, 1939 in Omaha, Nebraska to Melvin & Mildred (Justus) Edmonds. At one year of age she lost her mother, her father remarried and she was raised by her father and step-mother Melvin & Clara Edmonds in Basehor, KS. She graduated from Basehor High School in the Class of 1957. Emilee married Fred Eyerly in 1957 and they raised their children Jeffrey, Kenneth and Brenda in Oskaloosa KS until their divorce. In 1976, Emilee married Lee Swope and they made their home in Olathe . Throughout her life she was mostly a housewife, but she had worked for several years at La Petite Academy across the street from her home in Olathe. In her younger years she was a member of the Methodist Church in Oskaloosa where she had sang in the Choir. When her children were young she had worked at the Apple Festival in Perry, Kansas. Emilee and her husband Cecil “Lee” Swope had a band called “The FunTimers” and together they played for many years in the Kansas City area. Emilee loved working with children and singing, but above all she loved spending time with her children and especially her grandchildren.
Emilee was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Cecil “Lee” Swope and a stepdaughter Debbie Swope.
Survivors include her three children Jeffrey Eyerly and his wife Debra of Lansing, KS., Kenneth Eyerly of Pasadena, Maryland and Brenda Vance and her husband Tim of Olathe, KS. Three stepchildren: Clifford Swope, Cindy Walta, and Greg (Mary) Swope. Two brothers: Greg (Connie) Edmonds, Len Edmonds. One sister Suzanne Gower. Five grandchildren: Daniel (Cheyenne), Danielle (Yung), Phillip (Erin), Kenneth, Jr. (Trish) and Brock. Six great-grandchildren: Savannah, Hunter, Sasha, Jack, Dexter, Ava and one on the way.
