Edward (Eddie) E. Woods, 58, of Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away unexpectedly and way too soon at his home on February 25, 2021.
Ed was born August 21, 1962, in Kansas City, MO, to Frank and Zona Woods. Ed graduated from Robert A. Long High School in Longview, WA in 1981. Following high school, Ed enlisted in the United States Army as a Communication specialist, where he spent time stationed in Georgia, Colorado, Louisiana, and West Germany over his 6 years of service.
Ed worked for KCP&L/Evergy for more than 31 years, serving as a lineman, Journeyman meterman, and foreman. Ed was a valued employee, co-worker, and mentor to all. He also took pride in serving as a Union Steward. As a Master Electrician, Ed was always there to help family, friends, and even strangers (who wouldn't stay strangers for long) with their electrical needs, from installing ceiling fans to re-wiring an entire house.
Ed married Jill Devenport in 1983. Ed and Jill raised three beautiful daughters and were very active in their daughters' many school, athletic, and social activities. Ed enjoyed being an intricate part of the girls' activities from coaching all of their sports teams to being VP of fields for L.S.S.A over the years.
As his daughters got older, Ed directed his free time to his roles with the Free Masons and as a Shriner with the Ararat Shrine in Kansas City.
Ed was most proud of his promotion to Grampy with the birth of his first granddaughter in 2016 and again with his second granddaughter in 2019. Ed wholeheartedly loved and adored both of his granddaughters. Ed's face beamed with joy in every minute he spent with them.
Ed was an avid sports fan, following everything from football to NASCAR. Ed was a diehard and lifelong Chiefs fan and rooted for the Missouri Tigers.
Ed is preceded in death by his mother, Zona Woods.
Ed is survived by his wife Jill; his three daughters: Courtnie Woods of Lee’s Summit, MO, Bailee Woods of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Ashlea Banks (Zach) of Lee’s Summit, MO; his two granddaughters: Aislynn and Harlee Banks; his sister Lisa McMullen (Jerry) of Olathe, KS; his father Frank Woods of Kalispell, MT; close friend Neelie Odell of Lee’s Summit, MO; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews throughout the country.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life service for Ed on March 7, 2021, at Ararat Shrine Temple, 5100 Ararat Drive, Kansas City, MO. Ceremony will begin promptly at 1 PM followed by a remembrance celebration where guests are invited to share stories and memories of Ed. Dress attire is casual, so please come as you are and/or in your favorite KC Chiefs gear.
For any and all electrical needs going forward, Ed would recommend you contact Brandon at Electrical Freedom, LLC.
If you would like to donate in memory of Ed Woods, the family recommends Children’s Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, MO, or the Shriners Hospitals for Children, St. Louis, MO.
