Edna Louise Stewart, 94, of Springhill, KS passed away on Monday, Oct. 1, 2018 at the Spring Hill Care and Rehab. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am, and Funeral will be 11 am, both on Sat., Oct. 6, at the Spring Hill United Methodist Church at 112 E. Nichols St. in Spring Hill, KS. With committal to follow at 11 am, Wed., Oct. 24, in the Leavenworth Veteran's Administration National Cemetery in Leavenworth, KS. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Crossroads Hospice or the the Spring Hill United Methodist Church. Edna was born May 18, 1924 in Burlington, KS later she started teaching in a one room schoolhouse in Westphalia, KS. She met Kenneth Leslie Stewart and eventually they married on April 27, 1947 and they were happily married for almost 66 years until Ken, the love of her life died on April 11, 2014. She worked various jobs in Kansas, Colorado and then back to Kansas in her lifetime. After graduating from Emporia State Teachers College with a Teaching Degree in 1973, she taught and substituted in Garnett, KS and later in Kansas City, KS when they moved to Bonner Springs, KS in 1979, where they retired. After retirement she still read to school children and also volunteered at the Bonner Spring Library reading to children. She and Ken enjoyed many activities and trips with the Bonner Springs Senior Center before coming to live at the Spring Hill Care and Rehab Center in 2011. She also enjoyed her hobbies of playing card games, Collecting Elephants and Bells, Reading, word search puzzles, crafts of all kinds and walking. She was preceded in death by her husband Ken Stewart in 2014 and is survived by her four children Ron Stewart of Leslie, MO; Cheryl Smith and her husband Fred of Olathe, KS; Joyce Adams and her husband John of Grain Valley and Randy Stewart and his companion Deb Morrow of Richmond, KS. Four sisters Doris Finical of Leroy, KS; Elwilda Hoobler of Madison, KS; Jean Zorn of Eldorado, KS and Eileen Halowell of Peabody, KS. Eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
