Ralph, “Lefty” was born May 13th, 1951 in Maryville, Tennessee and was the only child born to Earnie Clyde & Charlotte (Murr) Cardin. His early childhood was spent in Tennessee before his family moved to Kansas City, Kansas in 1957 where he lived out the rest of his life. He attended Turner High School, graduating in 1969. Ralph married Rita (Arnold) in 1970 and together they made their home in Kansas City, Kansas where they raised their three sons. He retired in 2003 from Shawnee Mission School District after a 26 year career, most of which was spent as a head custodian at Pawnee Elementary School. Over the years, Ralph was an avid Bowler, loved Drag Racing, Hot Rods, and Harley’s “If it was fast and loud, he liked it.” In his retirement, Ralph devoted his life to his grandchildren, taking them to their practices, games and other events. No matter how far away, how hot or how cold the weather, whether long or short events, he was always the constant that his family could rely upon for support. It was not unheard of for him to attend multiple events in a day, even driving hours to other states to support those he loved.
Ralph was preceded in death by his father Earnie Clyde Cardin in 2008, mother Charlotte Cardin in 1975 and his step-mother Virginia Cardin in 2002.
Survivors include his sons: Drs. Ralph S. Cardin and his wife Heather of Kansas City, MO., Shawn Cardin and his wife Brandi of Goodland, KS., and Chris Jackson and his wife Jennifer of Kansas City, KS., and the mother of his children, Rita Tremaine.
