Donald R. Turley, 83, of Basehor, Kansas earned his angel wings on February 13th, 2019 Visitation will be 6-8pm Thurs. 2/21 at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be 11am Friday, 2/22 at the Elm Grove Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Elm Grove Cemetery.
Don was born April 18th, 1935 in Coweta, Oklahoma living 83 years, 9 months, and 13 days on this earth. The son of Worden Turley and Velma May Rice-Turley he was the third of their five children. He grew up within a farming family traveling to California to pick peaches, Oklahoma for peanuts, and ending up in Ocie Missouri working on the family dairy farm. Farming was hard work, and he had to quit school in the 8th grade at Salem in Ozark County to help the family. One of his first jobs off the farm was as a fire spotter up in a tower in Ozark County. It was while working there he met his future wife Leveta M. Coatney.
In 1952 he moved to Kansas City for work cleaning up after the 1951 flood in the Armourdale area. He continued to live in Kansas City while working for several different lumber yards and joined the Union of Cabinet makers and mill work #1635. He later started his own business "Custom Woodworking" in October of 1970. From there his business evolved to "Camper Sales and Supplies" with his son Ken Turley for thirty plus years. He attended the Elm Grove Baptist Church, and was one of their ambassadors for the Goof-off senior church group. His hobby for most of his life was collecting--anything and EVERYTHING as his family and friends already know, but he also loved working outdoors when his wife didn't have more important chores for him to do!
Preceding him in death were his parents Worden Turley and Velma Mae (Rice) Turley, his sister Lurene Harris, and his brothers Boyd Turley, and Rondol Turley.
He is survived by his wife Leveta M. (Coatney) Turley of Basehor, Kansas. Just recently celebrating 64 years of marriage. His son Kenith R. Turley (Karen) of Shawnee, Ks. His daughter Lesia K. Winters (Jim) of Bonner Springs, Kansas. His grandchildren Clayton Winters, Katie Turley, Melissa Tinberg, and Kristin Dinkel. Along with three very loved great grandkids Lilly, Travis, and Evie. His Brother Harold C. Turley along with a very large group of Turley Tribe family members in Missouri and Kansas.

Memorial contributions may be made to honor his name to the Elm Grove Baptist Church, 15774 Linwood Road, Bonner Springs, Ks 66012.
