Obituary for Donald Lee Roland

Donald Lee Roland, 83, was called home to be with our Lord in the early morning of Thursday, May 13, 2021. For the last few days of his life, Don was surrounded by the loving presence of his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Don was born October 2, 1937 in Kansas City, KS to Francis E. Roland and Evelyn Truman (Beckman). On July 21, 1956, Don married his wife of nearly 65 years, Patricia Lee (Jobe). A practiced tradesman and an entrepreneur, in August of 1988, Don founded his own company, Construction Specialists, which was in business until October of 2003. Don worked in construction and maintenance roles for a number of different companies, from 1957 until his retirement in 2009, for just over five decades.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Thomas Roland; brother-in-law Jim Jobe; sister-in-law Vickie Trimble and her husband Duke; his grandsons Charley Roland and Kyle Kelly; and son Donald “Bubby” Roland Jr.

He is survived by his wife Patricia; his children Leah Hamilton (Randy), Priscilla Kelly, Dawn Roland, Mike Roland, and Jennifer Radcliff (Jason); 16 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren, with a seventeenth on the way; his brothers Charles Roland (Rene), Ronald Roland, and Larry Roland; his brothers-in-law, John Jobe (Opal), Chuck Jobe (Eva), and Mike Jobe (Candy); sister-in-law Freda Hoover (Stanley); and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, and dearly held friends.

The family would like to sincerely thank Don’s pulmonologist, Dr. Wade Williams, Ministers Tracy Brooks and Mike Vernon, and the care staff at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, who cared for him and our family with incredible compassion throughout all of Don’s medical challenges, and especially in his final moments with us.

A funeral will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Sunset Hills Christian Church at 6347 Leavenworth Rd, Kansas City, KS 66104. Lunch will immediately follow the service. Masks are required to be worn inside the church except while eating. The church is wheelchair accessible.
