DICK R. TUCKER
Dick Ray Tucker, Bonner Springs, KS passed away peacefully in his home on June 11, 2020, after a courageous 16-month battle with colon cancer. He was 79.
He was born July 8, 1940, the son of Harry and Flossie Rowley Tucker. He graduated from Northern Heights High School in 1958.
Dick married Karen Mayfield on May 16, 1964 in Wichita, KS. Dick and Karen made their home in Osage City, KS where they raised two daughters, Cindy and Christine. Dick worked for several years at Wick’s Greenhouse and then later for the Osage City power plant, until joining Karen at Osage Products (a production facility of Hallmark Cards).
Dick and Karen’s employment with Osage Products led to a move to Bonner Springs, KS in 1992, when operations merged with Hallmark’s Leavenworth, KS production facility. Dick enjoyed a 20-year career with Hallmark, working primarily in the warehouse and maintenance areas.
After retirement from Hallmark in 2000 Dick and Karen enjoyed many years of travel with their fifth-wheel camper in tow. Dick was an avid trout angler and enjoyed fishing of any kind spending many hours with pole in hand. They visited most of the United States and for the past 19 years and had spent their winters in Donna, TX with their Big Valley family.
Dick had an incredible talent for woodworking and was a gifted handyman. Dick had the ability to fix just about anything that was thrown his way and if he didn’t know how, he’d have at least 10 different options of what to try. He spent many hours in his workshop even completing two nightstands for the bedroom just one month prior to his death. He touched the lives of many by generously sharing his talents and ingenuity. He also enjoyed hunting, tying fishing flies, Barbeque competitions with his sons-in-law, hosting fish fries, and frying the turkeys for Thanksgiving.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, his children and grandchildren, Cindy and Chris Ross, Westwood, KS, Nathan (26), Bentonville, AR, Kathryn (24), Manhattan, KS and Christine and Wes Ray and Sydney (14), Waunakee, WI; and two brothers. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
A Family Graveside Committal service will be at 11:00 am, Sat., June 20, in Bonner Springs Cemetery. Due to current restrictions, social distancing will be practiced, and face masks are suggested and will be provided.
