Diana Kay Vaughan, age 65, of Hammond, Indiana and previously of Kansas City, KS., passed away on Aug. 8th, 2020. Graveside Committal Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22nd in the Edwardsville Cemetery.
Diana was born on July 9th, 1955 in Bonne Terre, Missouri. She was the second of three children, and the only daughter born to, John Eckle & Jessie (Graves) Vaughan. Diana grew up in Kansas City, Kansas and graduated from Piper High School in the class of 1973. She enjoyed playing softball at WYCO Ball Fields in her youth and was also active in Girl Scouts and Wyandotte County 4-H. She was Baptize at the Wolcott Baptist Church in 1974. After graduating she took a job at Grant’s Department Store in Downtown Kansas City, MO. and later at TG&Y at 38th & State Ave. in Kansas City, KS. In 1979, Diana moved to Hammond, Indiana to be near her cousin, Darlene Richardson and to help her with her children for a few years. Later she took a job at Premiere Candy Company, where she enjoyed making chocolate covered cherries and other confections. Over the years while in Hammond she had worked for the Hammond School District as a Janitor and Aramark Vending Company. Diana enjoyed being around her family, cousins, and watching their children grow up. Over the past three years she fought to receive her disability from Social Security and had just received her back pay in December in 2019.
Diana was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her two brothers; John Eckle Vaughan, III and his wife Janice and David Gene Vaughan and his wife Zanelle all of Kansas City, KS., cousin Wendall Patterson, one aunt June Smith of Farmington, MO., step-mother Dorothy Vaughan, one step-brother Tom Charles, two step-sisters; Theresa Ward and Jo Ellen Johnson, as well as several other cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
