Obituary for Dennis Ray White

Dennis Ray White, 71, of Edwardsville, KS passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. Visitation will be from 3 to 4 PM, with the Funeral Service following at 4 PM, both on Thursday, February 9th, at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs, KS. Burial will be 1:30 PM, Monday, February 13th, at the Fort Scott National Cemetery (900 E National Ave, Fort Scott, KS 66701)

Dennis was born on July 23, 1951 at Travis Air Force Base in Paris, CA. He was an Eagle Scout and graduated from the Adrian Missouri High School in 1970. Dennis then joined the US Army serving for 20 years and was stationed all over the world. After the army, he worked for several years at the Kansas Department of Corrections in El Dorado, KS, and with the El Dorado Police Department, and the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Department as a jailer. Dennis more recently also worked as a security guard for over 10 years at various locations throughout Kansas City.

Dennis is survived by his mother, Florence “Evelyn” Thornton of Chase, KS. Sister Sharon McKee and her husband Michael of Oronoco, MN; a brother Frank “Joe” Mellott II and his wife, Michelle of Edwardsville, KS; Sister Elizabeth "June" Newton and her husband, Mark, of Florida. He’s also survived by his nephews Jacob Mellott, Brandon Mellott, and a niece, Hannah Mellott, of the home, as well as many other nieces and nephews. Dennis was preceded in death by his father, George Leland White in 1979, brother, Ernest Lee White in 1980, dad, Frank Joe Mellott in 1987, nephew Lucien Mellott in 2012 and sister, Vickie (Runningwater) Collard in 2022.
