Obituary for David Terrell Armstrong

David Terrell Armstrong, 71, of Bonner Springs, Kansas was born on March 11, 1948 to
Oscar Junior and Charlotte (Ellis) Armstrong in Paola, Kansas. David grew up in
Osawatomie, attending the Osawatomie schools until his enlistment in the Vietnam war.
David enlisted into the United States Army in August of 1965 and was later transferred
to Oakland, California. David was sent to Vietnam and ranked as a Private First Class
and was later promoted to the Specialist Fourth Class rank. David spent 11 months in
Vietnam in the 1st battalion, 12th infantry. After being wounded, David returned home
and was honorably discharged in June of 1967. David proudly served his country and
was a decorated war veteran, including being a Purple Heart recipient. David was also a
proud member of the American Legion. David married Diana Minden on May 13, 1967
at the First Lutheran Church in Paola, Kansas. Together they had two children, and
moved to Bonner Springs, Kansas where they raised their family. David spent most of
his career working at Belger Cartage Service in Kansas City working with heavy
equipment and driving trucks. Later in life, David remarried to Darlene Bergman on
December 29, 2001 and worked for Clarkson Construction Company until his retirement.
David passed away at his home on May 15, 2019. David was preceded in death by his
parents; his wife, Darlene Bergman-Armstrong in 2014, and his son Matthew Armstrong
in 2007. He is survived by his daughter, Gina McMahan, and husband Mark of Bonner Springs,
Kansas; 2 grandsons, Tyler and Blake McMahan of Bonner Springs, Kansas;
stepdaughter, Amy Jenkins, and husband Seth of Bonner Springs, Kansas; sister, Patsy
Tyrell of Kansas City, Kansas; and brother, Tom Armstrong of New Windsor, New York.
Visitation will be 10-11am, with the Memorial Service following at 11am, both Thursday,
May 23rd, 2019 at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, burial will follow in the Bonner
Springs Cemetery with Military Honors.
