Obituary for Corinne Louise Shearer

Corinne Louise Shearer of Lenexa, Kansas passed away Tuesday, December 12th surrounded by her children whom she loved beyond measure. Corinne was born on July 11, 1943, in Dodge City, Kansas to Gerald and Irene Klenke. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

Corinne attended St. Mary of the Plains College, graduating with her degree in elementary education and, in later years, added reading specialist to her certificate. While at college, she met Jack R. Shearer, they wed and had three children; Kelly, Brian, and Jill whom they raised in Dodge City, Kansas.

Corinne was an extraordinary woman with a fun spirited soul and heart of Gold. Family, friends, and her students were the center of her world. As an elementary school teacher, she impacted the lives of countless individuals. She was instrumental in establishing kindergarten classes at Sacred Heart School in Dodge City. Corinne also worked tirelessly with ESL (English Second Language) students at Sunnyside Elementary. In addition to her commitment to education she performed countless acts of charity. She was a member of the Ford County Ladies’ Auxiliary and Daughter’s of Isabella in Dodge City. Corinne volunteered at church, Feed His Lambs, St. Mary’s Food Kitchen, and Make a Wish Foundation.

In addition to her outstanding accomplishments Corinne enjoyed traveling, sewing, cooking, running, and working crossword puzzles. All these hobbies were second to the time she spent doting on and caring for her grandchildren.

Corinne was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister Marjorie Ann, and sister Mary Kay Fisher-Elms. Survivors include her children: Kelly (Clay) Oakes of Edwardsville, Brian (Becky) Shearer of Big Cabin, OK, Jill (Ed) Dinkel of Lenexa; siblings Ken (Mary) Klenke, San Antonio, TX, Jim (Kathy) Klenke, Newton, KS, Carol (Ron) Dreiling, Basehor; seven grandchildren: Jennifer, Coleton, Trevor, Tyler, Christian, Olivia, Amelia; six great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

The Rosary and Visitation will be from 4 to 6 PM, Wednesday December 27. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, December 28, both at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The church is located at Johnson Drive and Monticello Road in Shawnee, Kansas. Burial will follow at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery In Lenexa, Kansas. The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Feed His Lambs in care of the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home.

Corinne was a beautiful person inside and out. Her poise and grace were examples to everyone she encountered. She also cared so deeply for the people around her. Corinne will be forever missed.
