Obituary for Charles Julius Dunivan Jr.

Charles Julius Dunivan, Jr. passed away on May 6, 2023. Charles was born November 6, 1936, in Kansas City, MO to Charles and Martha Dunivan of Linwood, KS. And they preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by one brother Denny Dunivan, one sister Geraldine Deay, and one daughter-in-law Kimberly Dunivan.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Dunivan of the home, one son Michael Dunivan and Deborah of Linwood, KS, two daughters Lisa Foster and Tony of Linwood, KS, and Donna Henley and Billy Jr. of Tonganoxie, KS. Grandchildren include Danielle Rocha (Shawn), Vance Allred (Heather), Quintin Foster, Ashley Thompson (Zach), Cody Henley, and Wyatt Henley.
Great-grandchildren, Kaleb Gonzales, Cade Crady, Kaylene Gonzales, Kayleigh Chronister, and Nikolle Allred.

Charles graduated from Bonner Springs High School in the Class of 1955. He went on to attend college at Pittsburg State majoring in Industrial Arts graduating in 1960. He was inducted into the United States Army on September 26, 1960, and was trained as a cook stationed at the Oakland Personnel Center in Oakland, CA. In March of 1961, he transferred to the Controller section as a Graphic Illustrator and draftsman. He served in the capacity of assistant to the Supervisor of the training section. He was awarded 2 medals for sharpshooting, he attended the USATC ENGR. He completed his service as SP4 E-4 (T) when he transferred to the USAR on June 29, 1962. Charles was honorably discharged from the USAR as SP5, E-5 on January 13, 1965, and completed his service with the military on September 25.1966.
While in the special services, Charles was an Assistant Craft Director, he taught photography, woodworking, and upholstery.
While serving in the Military, Charles met Barbara (Schmidt) and the two were united in marriage on July 28, 1962.
Charles worked for Swift and Company as a route salesman and merchandiser from 1963 to 1968. He was a substitute teacher for the shop classes at Linwood HS and Bonner Springs HS, Charles also worked for CertainTeed Fiberglass and retired from American National Insurance after many years of service.
Charles enjoyed farming, photography, traveling, going to auctions, and the development and improvement of machinery. He collected old clocks, kerosene lanterns and liked to watch the Kansas City Chiefs.
He will be missed greatly by his family, friends, and colleagues.

A celebration of life will be held June 3rd from 12:00 pm to 3:00 p.m. at the Harrington Family Event Center, 218 Oak St, Bonner Springs, KS, next to the funeral home.
