Obituary for Carolyn "Sue" Smith

Carolyn “Sue” Smith, age 73, of Kansas City, Kansas went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 24, 2023. Visitation will be 11-Noon, and the Funeral will begin at Noon, both on Tuesday, February 28th at the Haven Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Sue was born on September 30, 1949, in Lebanon, Missouri, and was one of eight children born to Dale & Agnes (Nicks) Murrell. She and her siblings grew up near Lebanon and she graduated from Lebanon High School and went on to graduate from Business College. After graduating she moved to Kansas City for work and took a job at an Insurance Company. Sue lived in Kansas City, Missouri, and later Kansas City, Kansas where she became a member of the Haven Baptist Church. In her later years, she devoted her time to her children and grandchildren, whom she absolutely adored. Sue was a beautiful lady and was always well-dressed and perfectly accessorized with her jewelry.

“Sue was a beautiful lady who loved nothing more than being with her family. She loved to travel with her husband, Archie. They shared many adventures over the years which included their yearly trip to Sturgis to spend time with friends. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She had a huge heart and was fiercely protective of those she loved. She was gentle, kind, loyal, and giving, yet would call you out in a heartbeat it if she thought you cheated at cards. Her love for her family was matched only by her love for the Lord. Her presence on Earth was a blessing to those who loved her, and she will be greatly missed. Sue made a mean fried chicken, loved her family, adored her grandchildren, and the world is a little less bright now that she is gone.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Bobby Murrell and by her husband Archie W. Smith, IV.

Survivors include her children: Glenn Henry and wife Bobbi, daughter Carrie Henry all of Platte City, MO., Archie W. Smith, V and wife Paula of Liberty, MO., Stephanie Pierce and husband Ken of Kearney, MO., Greg Smith of Roeland Park, KS., 14 grandchildren 4 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Margaret, Norma, Peggy, Sharon, Billy, and Paulette. As well as several extended family, friends, and her beloved cat Princess.
