Life Reflections

Burlon (Burlone) Newton was born on April 13, 1940 to the late John and Irene Trotter Newton in Johnsville, Arkansas. Burlon attended school at Hermitage High School in Hermitage Arkansas where he graduated in 1959. After graduation, he travelled to the Edwardsville/Bonner Springs, KS area in search of employment. During his search for employment he met and later married Juanita Jean Thompson on March 11, 1962. To this union they had six (6) children.
As a child he joined Palestine AME Church in Arkansas where he accepted Christ at an early age. After arriving to the Kansas City in 1960, he united with Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, under the late Reverend Roscoe Newton. He served as a faithful member and a Sunday School Superintendent. He also supervised, helped with church maintenance, and was a Deacon for over 50 years.
He worked various jobs until finding full-time employment at Deluxe Cleaners where he was a truck driver for (13) years. Because of his love for driving trucks, he worked at Reid Supply company where he delivered regionally. He also drove nationally with Highway Carrier Inc. and Wagner Industries until he retired in 2007.
Burlon loved his family and traveled across states to see family, whether for a homecoming service, family reunion or just for vacation. He would travel every summer to Arkansas with his sister ‘Dottie” to visit with family and friends. He loved to eat and took his time to enjoy every bite. He loved to work on cars and things around the house and was a collector of various items that only meant something to him.
