Obituary for Bobby Gene "Bob" Atchison

Bob Atchison

Bobby Gene Atchison, age 79, of Bonner Springs, Kansas passed away on Friday, Oct. 16, 2020 at the Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. from complications of the Covid-19 virus. Visitation will be 10 to 11am, followed by the Funeral Service at 11am, both Thursday, Oct. 22nd at the Lenexa Baptist Church. Private Family burial to follow in the De Soto City Cemetery. Memorial Contributions can be made to the De Soto Youth Ministries, 33180 W. 83rd St. De Soto, KS. 66018.
Bob was born on May 29, 1941 in Decatur, Illinois. He had lived in Rossville, KS and later graduated from Highland Park High School in Topeka, KS. in the class of 1959. After High School he went to work for Harding Glass as a Glazier. He was working full time as a Glazier while he attended Washburn University as a full time student. He worked his way up to Manager for Harding Glass in Topeka where he was awarded Glass Man of the Year in 1976. Bob then worked as the Executive Vice President for Forman-Ford Glass Company in Des Moines, IA. before working in Olathe, KS for Glass Contractors, Inc. In 1988 he started Performance Glass, Inc., a family business that he continued to enjoy being a part of. Bob was a member of the Lenexa Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing in the Choir and being a part of Sunday School. He also enjoyed leading his Thursday Morning Men’s Bible Study at De Soto Youth Ministries. He was an avid KU Jayhawks Basketball fan, outdoor sportsman, and loved Jigsaw puzzles. Above all, Bob loved spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Patricia Atchison in 2017, his first wife Sharon Laird and one sister Judy Hansford. Survivors include his five children: Kayla Atchison of Topeka, KS., Paula Broadbent (Jeff) of Bonner Springs, Ks., Rick Atchison of Shawnee, KS., Rob Atchison (Susan) of Arvonia, KS. and Heather West (Carl) of Bonner Springs, KS. Two brothers Harley Atcheson & Cliff Atcheson, 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
