Bill Swisher

William Allen Swisher, Jr., age 79, of Linwood, Kansas went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 3rd, 2021. Visitation will be 5-7pm, followed by the Funeral Service at 7pm, both Friday, August 6th, 2021 at the Walnut Grove Bible Church (16766 Cantrell Rd, Bonner Springs, KS. 66012) In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Walnut Grove Bible Church.

Burial will be 1pm Saturday, August 7th at the Gypsum Valley Cemetery near Gypsum, KS. (Gypsum Valley Cemetery #2, 4 1/2 miles South and 3/4 mile East of Gypsum on Hobbs Creek Rd, just west of S. Donmyer Rd. This Cemetery is labeled as Chapel Hill Cemetery on Google Maps)

Bill was born on February 2, 1942 in Salina, Kansas and was the oldest of six children, and only son, born to Bill, Sr. & Arlene (Gawith) Swisher. He was raised in Gypsum, Kansas and graduated from Gypsum High School in the Class of 1960. Bill then served in the US Navy aboard the USS O’Bannon. He returned to Gypsum and worked on his grandparents farm. Over his working career he had worked as a Cattleman, Lineman, Electrician, Foreman at Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant and retired as a Machine Operator, however he enjoyed farming and cattle the most. Being a true Patriot, he was very committed to his local Veteran events and was a member of the local American Legion. Bill also was elected as the Republican Committeeman for Sherman Township/City of Linwood in Leavenworth County from 2014-2019. He also served in the Leavenworth County Republican Central Committee during that time. Bill was also an active member of the Walnut Grove Bible Church and before that the Bible Baptist Church in Bonner Springs. He loved spending time with his family, whether that was square-dancing, playing guitar, singing at church, camping and boating at Pomona Lake. As well as spending time with his grandkids and teaching them how to drive a car and shoot a gun. He was a true “Family Man”.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister Roberta Swisher and an infant great-granddaughter Posie Klamm.

Survivors include his wife Joy Swisher of the home, five children: Jody Klamm, Heidi Cronin and husband Tim, Shawn Swisher and wife Michelle, Rusti Whited, Nathan Swisher and wife Sharlotte. Four sisters: Becky Webb and husband Joe, Elizabeth Sonesen, Sheryl Swisher, Shelly Culwell and husband Terry, 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Flowers can be delivered to the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home on Friday before 3pm.
