Obituary for Albert LeRoy "Roy" Schmitz

Albert “Roy” Schmitz
Albert LeRoy Schmitz, age 81, of Edwardsville, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, June 22nd, 2022. Memorial Mass will be Friday, July 1, 2022, 11am, at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Kansas City, KS. The family will receive friends at a visitation at 10am, prior to the Mass at the Church. A private burial will be at Edwardsville Cemetery.
Roy was born on February 14, 1941 in Kansas City, Kansas and was one of six children born to Al & Helen (Dulle) Schmitz. He grew up in Kansas City, KS and graduated from Wyandotte High School in the Class of 1959, later he graduated from Pittsburg State College with a Masters in Industrial Arts and was a Certified Robotics Engineer. Roy married Roberta (Goin) on February 11, 1961 and together they made their home in Kansas City, KS and later Edwardsville. For several years, Roy taught drafting and descriptive geometry at Argentine Junior & Senior High School and FL Schlagle High School. After teaching, Roy worked as an Engineer at several local Kansas City Tool and Die Companies. In addition to his weekly breakfast group, he was also a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Wyandotte Bowhunters, Good Guys Rod & Custom Association, National Street Rod Association and Genuine Chevy GMC Truck Club of KC. (With an amazing modified ’47 Chevy truck!)
Roy was preceded in death by both of his parents. He is survived by his wife Roberta Schmitz of the home, two daughters Janice Stark and husband Martin of Piper, KS, and Gretchen Gersema and husband Scott of Lee’s Summit, MO, three grandchildren: Mindy Stark, Matthew Stark and Steven Hicks, siblings: Anne Louise Basch, Jerry Schmitz, David Schmitz and wife Cindy, Linda Murray, Steve Schmitz and wife Mary Ann, as well as many extended family members and friends.
Memorial Contributions in honor of Roy Schmitz may be made to the St. Patrick’s Catholic School.
