Obituary for John Keith Hoch

John Keith  Hoch
John Keith Hoch went to be with his Lord early Thursday morning, January 5th, at his home in Rolla.
John was born in Providence Hospital, Kansas, on July 14th, 1941. He played football and basketball in high school, attended Kansas University, and loved the Jayhawks. If they were playing, he was watching.
John worked for Wonder Bread in Kansas and then Tastee Bread in Cincinnati, Ohio. Wendi had worked for Haywards BBQ in Kansas City, and with a little help from Hayward, John and Wendi opened their famous Johnny's Smoke Stak BBQ at 72 and Rolla St. in 1978 and for 32 years served the best BBQ (burnt ends) in the state of Missouri.
John belonged to the Missouri Restaurant Association and served a term or two as president for the south central chapter.
John and Wendi liked to play golf, travel, and visit their condo at Lake Havasu City, Arizona, and daughter and family in California.
John made many friends over the years and his smile and sense of humor will be sadly missed by all.
John belonged to Blue Lodge, and was a very active member of Abou Ben Ahem Shrine Club of Springfield, Rolla chapter and the Joplin Scottish Rite.
John leaves his wife Wendi of the home and one son Scott Hoch (Rita), Daughter Robin Russell, Bonner Springs Kansas, step-son Mike Welter (Denise) Newburg, step-daughter Penny Haber (Brett) Chatsworth (CA), grandsons, Brandon Hoch, Blake and Drew Russell, grand-daughter Brenna Hoch, step-granddaughter Ashley (Sam) Bittle, Ali and step-grandson Rob Haber, four great grandchildren, one brother Jim (Joan) Tallahassee, Florida. and many nieces and nephews. A memorial visitation and service was held at 10:30 Saturday, February 4th at Ridgeview Christian Church in Rolla.
Graveside committal services will be 11 am, Sat., Aug. 5th, 2017 at the Glenwood Cemetery near Basehor, KS with a gathering of family and friends to follow at the Event Center at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home.
