Obituary for Phillip Eugene Hutchinson

Phillip Eugene  Hutchinson
Phillip Eugene Hutchinson, age 74, of Edwardsville, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, due to complications from Alzheimer’s Disease, at Brookdale College Square where he had resided for two years. A Celebration of his life will be 5:00 p.m. Saturday, November 5th, 2016 at the Bonner Springs United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at a visitation one hour prior to the service also at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to; Feed his Lambs, at the Bonner Springs United Methodist Church.

Phillip was born on September 28, 1942 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the only child of Eugene “Hap” and Margaret “Peg” (Ritchie) Hutchinson. Phillip grew up in Kansas City, Kansas and graduated in 1960 from Rosedale High School. Following high school he attended Kansas State University where he graduated from in 1964. In 1963 he married his high school sweetheart, Deanna (Richardson) Hutchinson. Following graduating from K-State and the ROTC, he entered the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant and spent one year in Korea and two years in the Illinois Army Reserves. During his career as a food technologist, Phil worked for C.J. Patterson Company for 19 years, Humco in Memphis, TN for 3 years and International Dehydrated Foods in Monett, MO. for 11 years. After retiring from the food business he returned to the K.C. area and worked 7 years for Basehor-Linwood School District in the food service area. He retired in 2008 and continue to be interested in his hobbies of visiting covered bridges, gardening, photography, woodworking, cooking and needlepoint. Phil was active in the Edwardsville Jaycees in the 1970’s, a lifelong member of the National Covered Bridge Society, VFW, a Certified Baker from the American Institute of Baking, a member of the Edwardsville United Methodist Church for 30 years and the Bonner Springs United Methodist Church for 15 years, where he was active in the United Methodist Men’s Organization. Phil was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 53 years, Deanna K. Hutchinson of the home, one daughter, Suzette Downing and husband James of Kansas City, KS., and one son Brian Hutchinson and wife Lori of Bonner Springs, KS., seven grandchildren, Brother-in-law David Richardson and wife Brenda, four nieces and nephews and one great-nephew.
