Marilyn Kay Beeman Thompson, 79, of Basehor, KS formerly of Independence, KS passed away on Wednesday, July 13 at her home. The family will receive friends at the visitation from 5 to 6 pm, Fri., July 22, and the Memorial service will be at 6 pm, Fri. evening, July 22, both at the First Christian Church of Independence, KS, (319 W. Laurel St. 67301) with burial to follow at 1 pm on Sat., July 23, in Dover Cemetery in Dover, OK. The family suggests memorial contributions to the church.
Marilyn was born May 28, 1937 in Coffeyville, KS, Daughter of Ross Burton Cowman and Darlene Mae Spoonamore. She attended Coffeyville schools and graduated Field Kindley High School and also Coffeyville Community College. She had previously worked as a secretary at M.E.C. in Neodesha and also worked for over 20 years as a Nutritionist at Tri County Special Education in Independence. On September 1, 1962 she married Roy Allen Beeman who preceded her in death in 2002. They made their home in Independence, KS. On February 14, 2003 she married William Howard Thompson who also preceded her in death in 2011. She had been a member of First Christian Church in Independence, KS for over 50 years where she had been a Sunday School teacher, Choir member, member of Future Planners Sunday School class, Juliet’s group, Deaconess, Elder and member of the Christian Women's Fellowship. In Independence Marilyn was also active in the Sewing Circle, The Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, life member of the VFW Auxiliary, Neewollah Campers and was active in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was currently an active member of the First Christian Church of Bonner Springs, KS and active in the Connections Sunday School class and the Tuesday Women’s bible study and prayer group.
Marilyn is survived by two children a son, Randy Beeman (Linda) of Basehor, KS and daughter Michelle Woodruff of Edmond, OK. Three brothers, Bob Wullenschneider of Independence, Ralph Cowman of Olathe, KS and Don Cowman of Farmington, NM. Six grandchildren Lori, Leslie, Lindsey, Lance Danielle and Kyle. And four great grandchildren Harper, Ava, Henley and Clayton. As well as a host of other family and friends that will miss her dearly.
