Obituary for Larry W. Caldwell

Larry W. Caldwell
Larry W. Caldwell, age 61, of Shawnee, KS and previously of Bonner Springs, KS passed away on Monday, May 23, 2016 at his home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, June 1st from 6 to 8 p.m at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs.

Larry loved his family, especially his grandkids. And if you knew him you also knew of his love for K-State, his dogs Major and Sancho, and bib overalls. Sports were a big part of his life, not only playing as a youth and watching throughout his lifetime, but also coaching numerous teams as his kids grew up. He was a character who was always joking around, many times at his own expense. Larry was a solid, likable guy and his work ethic made him an asset anywhere he worked; there aren't many people these days who can work on and fix just about anything as he could. He came up against the fight of his life when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in October, and he fought with a determination that those around him will never forget. He didn't complain and worried about everyone else more than himself, and we will all be comforted thinking of his frequent statement to us- IT IS WHAT IT IS.

Larry was preceded in death by his father Wilburn "Hop" Caldwell and mother Mary Jo Caldwell. Survivors include his wife Nancy of the home; sister Betty Palmberg and her husband Gene; sister Shirley Wheeler and her husband Pat; daughter April and her husband John (Cooper and Parker); son Aaron and his wife Brandi (Wyatt, Dalton, and Sophie); stepson Mark Tinberg and his wife Holly (Noah and Aidan); stepson Chris Tinberg (Christopher, Tara, and Lilly); and stepson Jason Tinberg and wife Michelle (Alison, Jack, and Jenna).
