Dorothy Irene “Bumble Bee Grandma” Griffiths, age 104, of Basehor, Kansas and previously of Bonner Springs went home to be with the Lord on Friday May 15, 2015. Visitation will be from 2 to 3pm, Funeral Service at 3:00 pm, both Tuesday, May 19th, at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kansas City, KS. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure in care of the funeral home.

Dorothy was born at home on May 27, 1910, the only child born to Arthur and Fern (Gilbert) Hillsamer in Brethren, Michigan. She was a lifelong member of the Church of the Brethren in Brethren, Michigan and that is also where she married her husband Leon Griffiths on June 2, 1931. In their retirement they enjoyed traveling. Dorothy had been a resident at Nettleton Manor in Bonner Springs for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and by one daughter, Betty May Kraft; three son-in-laws Charles Kraft, Ernest Schmidt and Kenneth Sprague, and one grandson, David Smith. Survivors include two daughters; Joan Lehto and husband Rudy of Basehor and Shirley Sprague of Mission, TX., four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.
