Obituary for Walter Jerold Hoskins

WALTER J. HOSKINS
Walter Jerold Hoskins, age 94, of Bonner Springs, KS died on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the Golden Living Center Kaw River in Edwardsville, KS. Funeral Services will be at 11 AM, Saturday, December 20, at Community of Christ church in Bonner Springs, KS with burial to follow in Bonner Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM, Friday, December 19, at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home also in Bonner Springs, KS. The family suggests memorial contributions to Outreach International in care of the funeral home. Walter was born on September 5, 1920 in Drumwright, OK and has lived in the Bonner Springs area since 1958. He served as an Elder for more than 50 years in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, now known as Community of Christ, including as pastor of two congregations. He served in the US Army from 1944 to 1946 in India as a staff sergeant. He worked for Fairbanks-Morse for 30 years in Kansas City, KS retiring in 1982. After retiring he became the greeter at the Bonner Springs Walmart where he greeted thousands over the years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Gladys Gaither Hoskins in 2006 and one grandson, Ryan Laurion in 1986. He is survived by one daughter, Phyllis Laurion (Craig) of Bonner Springs, KS; two sons, Richard Hoskins of Chicago, IL and Stephen Hoskins (JoAnn) of Indianapolis, IN; one sister, Dorothy Wiggington of Barstow, CA; nine grandchildren, Stephen, Philip, Silas, Charles, Nicole, Weston, Katherine, Shawn and Eric; seven great-grandchildren, Brittany, Dustin, Raeleigh, Parker, Oliver, Evelyn Jane, and Thomas; and two great-great-granddaughters, Charlotte and Elizabeth Drew.
