Obituary for Sue R. Schirmer (Robertson)

Sue R.  Schirmer (Robertson)
Sue R. Schirmer, 90, passed away December 8that the Saint Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Frank Schirmer. Sue was mother to three, grandmother to four, great-grandmother to three. Born Wanda Sue Robertson in Pattonsburg, Missouri, she was the first of three children to parents Carl and Darlene. Sue was a scholar and the valedictorian of her high school class. She was an athlete and a member of her championship high school volleyball team. And she was an artist. Sue moved to Kansas City in 1943 to study art. While there, she worked for North American Aviation producing B-25 bombers for the war effort. At North American, she met her future husband, Frank. They married in 1944 and soon moved to Bonner Springs, Kansas, where they raised a family and managed a local hardware business, the Owl Hardware. She will be remembered by many for the fine, detailed tole paintings she produced and so freely shared. A memorial service for Sue will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, December 13, at the Alden Harrington Funeral Home, 214 Oak Street, Bonner Springs, KS where a reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Sue’s memory to the Bonner Springs United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
