Obituary for Wilma J. Dangerfield

Wilma J. Dangerfield, age 98, of Bonner Springs, KS was called home to be with the lord on July 23, 2014. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 2, at the New Light Baptist Church (228 Springdale St., Bonner Springs, KS) with burial to follow in the Bonner Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 9 to 11 a.m., Saturday morning, prior to the service at the church.
Wilma was born on July 15, 1916 in Gay, Oklahoma, the third of five children, born to Roy and Myrtle (Blunt) Flemons. She married “the love of her life” Rev. Lannie Dangerfield in the year of 1932 and together they moved to Bonner Springs in 1944. She was the First Lady of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, which was founded by her husband. She spent most of her lifetime as a homemaker and a supporter of the church. Wilma was adoringly known as “Momma” to every generation of the family and they all loved her unconditionally. She was quick to give a witty comeback and a stern glance even in her failing health. Momma was undoubtedly “Sharp as a tack” her entire life. The family will always remember coming by and reminiscing every Sunday at her house. All will remember the laughter, the tears, the affection, and wisdom she bestowed upon us. Without a doubt heaven just got another angel. She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Lannie Dangerfield in 1970, her parents, siblings, four children including Frances Harris and three other infant children, as well as two grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Survivors include her eight children; James (Judy) Dangerfield, JoAnn (Joe) Travis, Barbara (Robert) Royster, Marion Dangerfield, Lois (Clyde) Rice and Rosetta Smart all of Kansas City, KS; Lannie Dangerfield, Jr. of the home and Donald (Cheryl) Dangerfield of Overland Park, KS. A host of grandchildren that spans six generations, two nieces Dorothy Glass and Laverne Mosley, two special cousins Frankie Kemp and Vernon Blunt and several extended family and friends.
